To edit GED file, we strongly recommend installing software that works with GED files. Of course, there are probably GED Online Editors available, but none of them will be able to provide such a wide range of available options as dedicated software.

This is definitely the surest way. Try to open the GED file with one of the programs and it will see if you can edit the GED file. The most proven method is to download the installer from the developer's website. You can find direct links to the creators' websites on the subpages of each application. Most of the file formats are simply text format saved under a different extension - so you can open them e.g. with Windows Notepad But beware - making manual changes to the GED file or another may result in its damage. If you make inappropriate changes and save the file, it may happen that you do not reopen the GED file.. By far the safest way is to use file editing programs that works with the GED extension.
