If you still cannot see the contents of the NM file, but also don't see the need to install dedicated software, then there are other solutions. Many file types are simply text files or data archives. If this is the case, you can try to preview the contents of NM file with "Notepad". I can at least to some extent let you see the contents of the file with the extension NM.
The second way is to use a data archiving program. Check if you can open your file with eg Winrar. If your NM file belongs to the archived files category, you will see a list of files inside the archive. Go to the information page about the NM file extension. to see what kind of data it contains.
