If you haven't been able to preview the contents of the NVD file yet, or you don't want to install any dedicated programming to handle these files, you can try something else. A lot of file formats contain plain text data or packed data. In this case, it is likely that you will be able to view the contents of NVD with a normal "Notepad". This does not guarantee success, but in most cases it will allow you to see the contents of the NVD file to some extent.

The second attempt may be with a data archiving program. Try to open your file with e.g. Winrar or Winzip. If your NVD file belongs to the archived files category, you will see a list of files inside the archive. Go to the information page about the NVD file extension. to see what kind of data it contains.
