Sometimes you just need to see what is in the OSM file, without having to perform more complicated operations. Then do not install dedicated software and use tools such as OSM Viewer. Such a program allows us only to display the contents of the OSM file. To view the content of the OSM file, select one of the available options:
Our OSM Viewer did not live up to what I expected? Choose something else The first is to download the software that supports OSM files You can try to open your OSM file with one of these applications. If you choose to install software that supports OSM, you will have additional oppositions, such as converting the OSM file or editing the OSM file.
Note, however, that this solution requires you to download and install the software dedicated to handling the OSM file on your device. If you still cannot see the contents of the OSM file, but also don't see the need to install dedicated software, then there are other solutions. A lot of file formats contain plain text data or packed data. If this is the case, you can try to preview the contents of OSM file with "Notepad". I can at least to some extent let you see the contents of the file with the extension OSM.
The second attempt may be with a data archiving program. Open Winrar or Winzip and try to unpack your file. If the file is a data archive, you should see what individual files it consists of. To get information about what kind of data it is, go to the subpage with information about the OSM file extension.
