You haven't seen the content of your POI file yet and you don't need additional software? Try other options. Many file types are simply text files or data archives. In this case, you can try to open your POI file with the simplest text editor, for example with "Notepad". I can at least to some extent let you see the contents of the file with the extension POI.

As in the case of Notepad, you can also use the data archiving program. Try to open your file with e.g. Winrar or Winzip. If the file is a data archive, you should see what individual files it consists of. If you don't know what type of POI file is, learn more about POI file extension.
