If you haven't been able to preview the contents of the S57 file yet, or you don't want to install any dedicated programming to handle these files, you can try something else. Many file types are simply text files or data archives. In this case, it is likely that you will be able to view the contents of S57 with a normal "Notepad". This does not guarantee success, but in most cases it will allow you to see the contents of the S57 file to some extent.

The second attempt may be with a data archiving program. Open Winrar or Winzip and try to unpack your file. If the file is a data archive, you should see what individual files it consists of. If you don't know what type of S57 file is, learn more about S57 file extension.
