If you haven't been able to preview the contents of the STML file yet, or you don't want to install any dedicated programming to handle these files, you can try something else. Many file types are simply text files or data archives. In this case, you can try to open your STML file with the simplest text editor, for example with "Notepad". This does not guarantee success, but in most cases it will allow you to see the contents of the STML file to some extent.

The second way is to use a data archiving program. Open Winrar or Winzip and try to unpack your file. If your STML file belongs to the archived files category, you will see a list of files inside the archive.
