If you still cannot see the contents of the TMX file, but also don't see the need to install dedicated software, then there are other solutions. A large proportion of the data formats are simply archives or plain text files. In this case, it is likely that you will be able to view the contents of TMX with a normal "Notepad". This solution does not guarantee that the problem will be solved, but it will often allow you to view the data in the TMX file to some extent.

The second attempt may be with a data archiving program. Open Winrar or Winzip and try to unpack your file. If the file is a data archive, you should see what individual files it consists of.
