If you still cannot see the contents of the W3D file, but also don't see the need to install dedicated software, then there are other solutions. A lot of file formats contain plain text data or packed data. In this case, you can try to open your W3D file with the simplest text editor, for example with "Notepad". This solution does not guarantee that the problem will be solved, but it will often allow you to view the data in the W3D file to some extent.
