How to open OCX file?

Open OCX files in 9 steps

In case it is not possible to open the ActiveX Control file without additional steps, follow the steps below

  1. Make sure that the operating system where you are trying to open the ActiveX Control file is supported by it. Files with the OCX extension may not be supported by the operating system you are using.
  2. No default Microsoft Windows application in the system or Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual Studio will prevent you from opening OCX files. If there is no such program, install it (or download it earlier).
  3. Make sure that one of the Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual Studio programs is the default application for opening OCX files in the system. If this is not the case, you should manually set the program, preferably by editing the properties of the ActiveX Control file and displaying the applications available on the system that allow you to open it. On the list, search for one of the Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual Studio applications and confirm.

  5. If the ActiveX Control file has been downloaded from the Internet or copied from another medium, it may be corrupt. In this case, although one of the Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual Studio programs is installed, the ActiveX Control file cannot be opened. Re-downloading or copying the file may fix the problem.
  6. If it turns out that the ActiveX Control file contains a virus, it will usually be impossible to open it. In this situation, it is recommended to scan all data media in the system for viruses.

  10. The inability to open the ActiveX Control file may be due to restrictions imposed on the user by the system administrator.
