How to view CAN file?

It often happens that you only need to preview the contents of the CAN file, without the need to edit or process the data contained in it. Then do not install dedicated software and use tools such as CAN Viewer. Such a program allows us only to display the contents of the CAN file. To view the content of the CAN file, select one of the available options:

By choosing the option to install dedicated software, you will also be able to e.g. edit the CAN file and sometimes even convert the CAN file.

Advantages and disadvantages of dedicated software

First of all, you need to know that you need to install specific software that supports CAN files on your computer. In this situation, unfortunately, you cannot see the CAN file online. This solution is more problematic, but also allows for more processing options for the CAN file. You can find some examples of dedicated software below, and the full list is here CAN File Opener

Other options

If you haven't been able to preview the contents of the CAN file yet, or you don't want to install any dedicated programming to handle these files, you can try something else. A large proportion of the data formats are simply archives or plain text files. In this case, you can try to open your CAN file with the simplest text editor, for example with "Notepad". This solution does not guarantee that the problem will be solved, but it will often allow you to view the data in the CAN file to some extent.

As in the case of Notepad, you can also use the data archiving program. Try to open your file with e.g. Winrar or Winzip. If our theory proves to be correct, you should see the tree of files contained in the archive. Go to the information page about the CAN file extension. to see what kind of data it contains.
