Sometimes you just need to see what is in the STEM file, without having to perform more complicated operations. Then do not install dedicated software and use tools such as STEM Viewer. If you still cannot see the contents of the STEM file, but also don't see the need to install dedicated software, then there are other solutions. A lot of file formats contain plain text data or packed data. If this is the case, you can try to preview the contents of STEM file with "Notepad". I can at least to some extent let you see the contents of the file with the extension STEM.
As in the case of Notepad, you can also use the data archiving program. Try to open your file with e.g. Winrar or Winzip. If the file is a data archive, you should see what individual files it consists of. If you don't know what type of STEM file is, learn more about STEM file extension.
